There is a reason that “getting off on the right foot” and “getting out on the wrong side of the bed” are sayings. The way you start anything, especially your day, can determine how the rest of it is going to go. Here are a 5 things you should do every morning to start your day off right.
Smile

“A smile puts your on the right track. A smile makes the world a beautiful place. When you lose your smile, you lose your way in the chaos of life.” – Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
There is something about a big smile on your face that instantly makes you happier and more positive. Make it a habit to immediately smile when you first wake up. Even if you are still dead tired and dreading getting out of bed, think of the gift you have been given of another beautiful day on this earth and smile. You will be amazed at how uplifting it can be and the tone it will set for the rest of your day.
Stretch
If you can’t do any other physical activity, at least take 10 minutes or so to stretch every morning. Stretching promotes blood circulation, boosts your energy, and encourages an optimistic outlook. I, personally, like to do this Stretching Routine that I built using my favorite stretches. It really loosens me up and gets me energized for the day.
Take 10 Minutes to Read, Meditate, or Have a Brainstorming Session
We tend to rush everywhere we go and can never seem to find time to have a few quiet minutes to ourselves. I find it easier to find the time in the mornings now that the baby is sleeping later. I really like to have a mini brainstorming session first thing to clear my head. It allows me to get any ideas or thoughts I may be mulling over down on paper. This allows me to start the day with a clean slate so to speak. Occasionally, I skip the brainstorming and use the time to sit quietly, reflect, or spend a few minutes reading. It’s just a nice way to begin.
Make Your Bed
I don’t know what it is but there is something so satisfying about starting the day with a freshly made bed. I think, psychologically, it feels like you have already accomplished something and makes your whole room feel tidy and organized. This can, in turn, boost your energy and outlook. Not to mention, who doesn’t love climbing into a freshly made bed at the end of the day?
Affirmations
I know they can seem silly, especially if you have never done them, but they can really set the tone for the rest of your day. Even if you just do a couple, they can make a big difference. Here are a few you can use to start your day:
Today is going to be a great day.
I am a confident, intelligent, and beautiful person.
Today, I let go of my insecurities and embrace my full potential.
I deserve joy and happiness.
